Annuals & Perennials

Your garden is the ultimate expression of you.  When  planting annuals and perennials; you have many choices.  It's easy and fun to display bold colors, quiet and subdued colors,  or distinct combinations year round.

First, let's clarify:  Annual flowers bloom, set seed and die in a single growing season.  Perennials are more permanent plants.  Some perennials live for only 2-3 growing seasons, but most live for decades becoming a permanent fixture in your garden.

Annuals present the gardener with a multitude of options each year.  There are annuals for every kind of garden condition.  Some annuals love shady areas, where others thrive with constant sunlight.  Others annuals thrive in sandy, well drained soil, and some will survive nutrient poor soil.  Annuals complement any garden and can be planted in combination with almost any other plant.  Annuals produce great borders.  Plant annuals among perennials, bulbs, rose beds, vegetable gardens,  and shrubbery.  Have fun and be creative!

Perennials are usually herbaceous, meaning soft, non-woody stems.  Most perennials die back in winter, but the root system remains alive and sends up new growth in spring.  Some perennials remain evergreen in some parts of the country.

Because perennials mature faster than trees or shrubs, they are a great choice for a "quick effect"  in your landscape.  You can create a magnificent border of perennials within 2 years.

No group of plants is more versatile.  There are numerous perennials for a variety of climates and soil conditions at all price ranges.
